Our Mission

Our mission is to empower youth and families from communities affected by poverty to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially. We aim to break the cycle of poverty through innovative and impactful programs that foster personal growth and community development.

We are committed to equip and empower the youth in our programs to be prepared for independent living, accomplish tailored goals, build connections, and reach their fullest potential.

Hunger is a daily struggle for many families in our community and impacts the ability of adults to function effectively in the workplace and their children’s performance at school.

How It All Began

Freedom Community Ministries (FCM) is a non-profit organization established on October 26, 2011, based in Morrow, Georgia and received it's 501(c)(3) status. FCM was formally dedicated on October 11, 2014 and opened its doors for the first time.  Founded by Angela Shannon, FCM was created to address critical social issues affecting underserved communities in the South Atlanta area, including Morrow, Riverdale, Atlanta, and Jonesboro.

In 2023, FCM undertook a project to purchase land and build the MentorSport Gymnasium facility, allowing the expansion of youth services and the food pantry.

We provide food, mentorship, and security for the citizens of our community.  We don't want to just acknowledge that there are many need but we want to be apart of the solution.

FCM is a volunteer-driven and charitable organization that unites members from throughout the community interested in helping their neighbors in need. Supporters provide financial contributions, in-kind donations and volunteer manpower.
